June 28th has been designated as the “National Insurance Awareness Day”. It is observed each year on this day to serve as a reminder to review your insurance policies, insurance needs and your cost for these important coverages.
While insurance can offer protection, it is imperative that you update your insurance to meet your current day and life needs.
There are many life changes that will impact both the coverage and premium of your policies. There are also many different products that can work with your specific needs as they change.
When was the last time you took a good look at your policies?
Do you know that if you are eligible for accident forgiveness it is not automatically added to your policy?
Are you aware that your good student may be able to reduce his/her premium based on their grade average?
Do you know when you should be listing your newly licensed operator on their own individual policy?
Are your elderly parents in your care covered by your homeowner’s insurance?
Does your homeowner’s policy extend coverage for an in-home business?
(These are just a few examples of things you should be discussing).
At The Insurance Agency of Cape Cod, Inc. it’s insurance awareness day every day!

THE NEW WAY OF BUYING A CAR!
Some of you may be familiar with the new trend of purchasing a car ONLINE! That’s right, we can now order a car directly on line and pick it up at a designated center. A company operating out of Arizona called, Carvana.com allows you to view, order, pay for and even finance the purchase all on line. HOWEVER……..before you rush on out to take advantage of this new opportunity, Let us remind all you Massachusetts residents of how our state works.
Massachusetts vs. The Rest of The World
For decades, an organization AIB (Automobile Insurers Bureau) has written a personal auto policy specifically for our state. Prior to the current competitive market all carriers were required to use the MAP (Massachusetts Automobile Policy) as written by AIB. In today’s competitive market a carrier doesn’t have to use this policy, but old habits die hard and most insurance companies writing auto in Massachusetts still use the MAP.
What does this mean?
In a nut shell, without getting into the nitty gritty of the complicated explanation of how our auto policy in Massachusetts and RMV work. It may mean that you will have no coverage for this transaction. Carvana requires confirmation of coverage before they can complete the transaction and the Insurance Company needs the transaction completed before they will provide the coverage!
Is there a way around this situation?
Possibly, but you want to find out before you start the process. Make sure to review the situation with your agent before entering any contract of purchase. We will help you navigate through.
Avoid the down pour!
We all know that when it rains it pours, so what if we told you there was an inexpensive way to help protect you in the event you get caught in a downpour?
An umbrella policy helps provide an additional layer of security to you against being sued for damages to injuries caused in an accident, or for damages to someone else’s property. Umbrella policies add extra liability coverage over and above your primary policies such as, auto, homeowner’s and even your Business Liability insurance. Umbrella insurance is designed to help protect you from large and potentially devastating liability claims or judgements against you!

7 in 10 employed Americans say they would feel the financial pinch in a month or less without their paycheck- Life Happens
Imagine for a moment if you were injured on the weekend doing something stupid and couldn’t go to work and you were the sole bread winner, WHAT WOULD BE YOUR PLAN?
If you didn’t have a PLAN and ZERO savings account to keep the family afloat for say 3-4 months your family would definitely feel the pinch. Utility bills and auto loans would be delinquent, mortgage payments would definitely be late or missed all together and let’s not forget you do have to feed your family. SO YOUR PLAN STICKS!!
Imagine that we met and did a review of your current Homeowners, Auto, Business and Umbrella policies and I recommended a Disability policy or a PAYCHECK POLICY! What would your family’s financial situation look like……… if you were out of work for say 6 months? Pretty secure if you ask me!!! Let me show you an example:
Self-employed Male, 37 income of 62k per year- $3450.00 Total monthly benefit.
Premium $74.79 per month!!!

Life Insurance………………..WHY NOT?
The thought of purchasing life insurance for a child can create an uncomfortable feeling. No one wants to think about such devastation, however, a life insurance policy can also be utilized to help build up cash value that can be accessed in the future. You can help your child pay of education debt, help pay for a wedding or even their first home.
There is no clear answer if purchasing a life insurance policy for your child is right for you but educate yourself to make the best possible decision on behalf of your children. A few things to consider;
- If your child develops a chronic disease, it could leave them ineligible later in life to purchase a policy when they need it the most. If you purchase a policy with a cash value feature you can borrow money from your policy when it is needed.
If you’re considering a savings account for your child why not a permanent life insurance policy (cash value). You can access it at any time after the initial three to five years, with no tax implications.
So, let’s talk facts;
Why it’s a good idea to purchase permanent life insurance!
Protection from Tragic death, Funeral expenses, family counseling, and medical bills and let’s not forget when the parents need to take a leave of absence from work.
Savings and Insurability are the easy things to remember and talk about. The things that are difficult are just as important if not more important!
- Fees……………..Really? How can you even put a price tag on it!
- Most children don’t die………………Really? That’s just what we want to believe…..aren’t we always telling teenagers they are NOT invincible! We Parents need to practice what we preach!
- I don’t want to benefit from my child’s death……………………Really! No ONE benefits from a death but someone sure has to step up when it happens!
